Everything about taxes

Note: If you're a Legacy (Classic) user, please log in to your account to access the dedicated Legacy (Classic) Help Center.

MailerLite collects sales tax to comply with local legal requirements. If applicable in your region, you’ll see consumption tax listed at checkout and on your invoices.

MailerLite charges consumption tax, such as VAT, GST, or US sales tax, on your payments. The type of tax and the rate depend on the tax rules that apply to the location specified in your Billing information. Learn how to update your billing information here.

Since taxes differ based on location, they are not included in prices shared on MailerLite’s pricing page or other marketing materials. The final price with taxes included will be calculated and displayed at checkout:

And in your invoices:

If your organization has a tax ID, you can add it to your account. Doing so is optional, as tax IDs are only necessary if you require them for your billing records and tax filing.

Types of tax IDs you can add:

  • European VAT number (for organizations in the EU). Add it to your billing information for the reverse charge mechanism to be applied and VAT to be removed from your purchase.

  • Local tax ID. Add a tax identification specific to your country (EIN, NIF, NIP, etc.), to have it included in your invoice for bookkeeping purposes.

If your organization (outside the EU) is tax-exempt, review the country-specific guide and send the required documentation to taxes@mailerlite.com. We will review your exemption request.

To add your tax ID:

  1. Navigate to Account settings.

  2. Choose the Plan and billing.

  3. Go to the Billing information tab.

  4. Enter your billing address and select your country from the dropdown menu.

  5. In the Tax information section, select Add my VAT/Tax ID.

  6. Select the Tax ID type from the dropdown menu (if more than one is available) and enter your Tax ID.

  7. If needed, click Add another tax ID and fill in the details.

  8. Click Save changes.

Based on this information, our billing platform will calculate the applicable tax rate on top of the plan price on the checkout page.

Check out our country-specific tax guides to learn more about local requirements and exemptions.

VAT number is invalid

If your VAT number is not being accepted, make sure that:

  • It was entered correctly. The format should be a 2-letter country code followed by a series of letters and numbers (e.g., PL1234567890).

  • It is valid for cross-border transactions. Your VAT number may be suitable for local tax purposes; however, it needs to be valid for cross-border transactions in order to be accepted on MailerLite.

  • It was entered in the European Tax ID field. Entering it in a different field will not apply the reverse charge mechanism.

  • VIES VAT number validator validates it. Check your VAT number on VIES. If the number is not validating due to the service being down, give it some time and try again.

Unable to proceed without tax ID

If you’re unable to check out without entering a tax ID:

  • Delete any entry in the tax ID field. Ensure the Tax ID field is empty by clicking the trash icon and unchecking the Add my VAT/Tax ID box.

  • Verify your billing details. Double-check that all other required fields, such as name and address, are completed correctly.

  • Re-enter payment information. If the "Confirm and Pay Now" button remains unavailable, re-enter your payment details and save the information again.
