How Privyr migrated to MailerLite and boosted open rates by 20%

The Privyr team knew it was time to switch email providers when issues with their previous tool began to impact work negatively. 

Shuni, the SaaS tool's content marketer, explained the situation.

We had problems with the customer support. There were technical glitches that we weren’t informed about that impacted our daily operations. We no longer saw the value of the tool, especially considering the cost.

This started an ESP migration process that eventually brought Privyr to MailerLite, where they now benefit from a UI they enjoy, responsive customer support, and up to a 20% open rate boost on newsletters. 

We spoke to Shuni to learn more about the setup process. She also spoke about how MailerLite empowers Privyr’s teams to create marketing campaigns without relying on developers.

The Privyr team started this process by testing a couple of different options. Ultimately, MailerLite’s UI and customer support stood out. 

MailerLite’s UI convinced me. It’s very pretty and sleek and it felt like I would enjoy working with the tool. Your customer support was amazing and very responsive too.

This was the complete opposite of their experience with their previous tool, which they found had a laggy UI and unsatisfactory support. 


The next step in the switchover was migrating the Privyr email newsletter. This would let the team test how the service performed before committing fully. 

Shuni found the process of switching to MailerLite very easy. She used our Mailchimp integration to connect the 2 platforms and then import Privyr’s contacts in just a few clicks. 

The integration saved Shuni the hassle of exporting the Privyr subscribers to a CSV file, cleaning up all the data, and then importing it into MailerLite. It also ensured all her data was moved correctly. 

[The integration] was useful because I could basically just click import and wait for it to finish migrating.

The next step was recreating the company’s newsletter templates. Shuni found it easy to build a design she liked by customizing a template from our library

The process of recreating our emails was pretty easy. MailerLite has a lot of templates that we could build our designs on. I just chose a template and tweaked it according to what I wanted.

While the Privyr team knew they were getting a clean UI and good support, the killer feature of MailerLite turned out to be something they weren’t expecting. 

After sending their first few campaigns, the team noticed that open and click rates increased significantly.

We wanted to test how easy it was to run campaigns on MailerLite, so we migrated our newsletter audiences first. We realized that our newsletter open rates increased by between 15% and 20%.

Open rate is one of the most important metrics for email marketing as it shows that people are receiving and reading your emails. More people reading your content increases the chances that they will see your offers and buy your product. 

This meant the decision to move all of the team’s email marketing efforts to MailerLite was an easy one. 

When we saw the open rate increase, we realized it was time to move over.

Once Privyr had committed to MailerLite, it was time to get all the teams involved.

Three teams use MailerLite at Privyr: 

  1. Content marketing uses it to create lead capture pop-ups that are tailored to blog posts, link these pop-ups to existing nurture automations, and send email newsletters.

  2. Performance marketing uses it to boost the impact of campaigns by quickly creating targeted landing pages. 

  3. Customer support uses it to organize product demos for customers and leads.

Thanks to MailerLite’s intuitive UI, all the teams were able to get up and running without any stress.  

It was very easy to onboard our entire team. We didn’t even need an onboarding session. We just invited people to the platform and let them play around and they figured it out.

Each team is now empowered to create the email marketing campaigns they need to drive results without having to go through the tech team. They’re able to launch campaigns far faster than they would be able to otherwise.

To make the most of their new setup, the Privyr team used automation A/B testing to optimize their campaigns. They wanted to discover the best welcome email messaging to convince users to book a demo. 

Using subject line and content testing, they discovered the types of messaging their subscribers respond to, thus optimizing this part of the sales process. 

More recently, the team has been experimenting with types of newsletter content and they discovered a new topic category of content that generates big engagement.

Previously our newsletter was about sales strategy and best practices. But we began to test sharing actual scripts, and we realized our audience interacted with the links a lot.

With MailerLite’s built-in email analytics, they’re able to see exactly which elements subscribers click on. They can then provide more content like this in future newsletters, thus leading to more link interaction and, ultimately, more customers.
